iKobo 2.0

Well, it’s not really versioned, but we released the new version of my company’s website over the weekend (Friday morning, actually). I had photoshopped a few usability changes (just for the front page, although the rest of the site could use leagues more), which I sent to the developers about two months ago, but none of them seemed to bother listening to the suggestions. Due to problems with the developers’ code, it took us the better part of the week to do it.

Last Week was a Waste

I don’t really know why I’ve been like I have for the past few months. Last week, I didn’t go in to work at all, citing illness. Which wasn’t entirely untrue (on Monday morning, at least), but I just didn’t want to go in.

Which is really bad, because my company was supposed to deploy our new website last week. *sigh*

I need to find something that makes me happy and makes me enjoy myself when I have freetime, rather than just playing video games all the time. They’re fun, but it’s just a band-aid over the things that have been making me depressed for the past few months.

Good Books

Anyone mind recommending some good books to me? I just finished a flurry of them, and my queue is getting short.

I just read 1984, by George Orwell; Catch-22, by Joseph Heller (which, sadly, I didn’t really enjoy); Love, Poverty, and War, by Christopher Hitchens; the Fabric of the Cosmos, by Brian Greene; and Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card.

Of course, I really enjoy sci-fi and fantasy, but lately I’ve been getting back into political books. Hence, 1984 and LP&W. I’m looking for something good in the same vein, but mature sci-fi like Ender’s Game would also be really good.

My New Best Friend

Nick, I love you. Like a man loves another man.

Nick let me have his Creative Inspire 5.1 surround sound speakers. They’re not incredible, but I’ve had 2.1 (two satellites, one subwoofer) speakers for years, and have been craving surround sound. Ever since he got his top-of-the-line Logitechs, he hasn’t really had a use for them. So they’ve been donated to my (worthy) cause.

Happiest Fucking Day of My Life

The iTunes Music Store added music from the Final Fantasy games to their available titles yesterday. The albums include OSTs for Final Fantasy I, II, IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, the Final Fantasy concert in Japan, and two Black Mages albums.

It’s a pretty slim lineup, but it’s a hell of a great start, and a way I can finally legitimately purchase the CDs without having to pay an obscene shipping charge (often more than the cost of the CD itself). Not to mention, if the albums do well, I would be willing to bet that Apple will start putting more of them up. Here’s hoping the various Piano Collections and themed remixes come next.

So Freaking Tired

Why do I do this? I stayed up all night the past two nights ago playing Midnight Club 3 with Nick, opting to sleep during the daytime.

That would be just fine if I didn’t have a job during the daytime. Stupid Mondays.

I’m going to try and stay here as long as possible (I’m aiming for noon), then head home and get some sleep. I need to get back on a fucking normal schedule. Not that I’ve ever been on one before in my life. To be entirely honest, I would say it’s a pretty safe bet to say that I have not woken up during the same hour within two consecutive nights for the past years. It’s probably more, but I can’t say for certain. Either way, I need to find a way to get a consistent schedule at the least. This is starting to get really old.

Got Ditched Last Night

Well, I only really told half the story last night when I mentioned going to see Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. The first half is that Dani called me asking for directions to the GameStop near my house, where her friend Jon works. I think she felt guilty about it, so invited me to come hang out with her. We ended up deciding to go see H2G2. I had to help my parents in preparation for moving my cousin downstairs beforehand, but I rushed through that and ended up ditching them before I was finished so that I could hang out with her.

I finally get there, and she’s talking with Jon in her car outside the GameStop (which had closed by then). Evidently he had gotten her upset, so we just talked in the parking lot for a few minutes until she headed home. I have to admit it kind of hurt, but I’m trying not to let it get to me. I just wish I would stop deluding myself about members of the bumpier sex, and start to realize that they’re just not interested in me.

Erica’s in the Basement Now

We spent all day moving my dad’s things out of his office in the basement, and moving my cousin into there. We’re combining my dad’s office and our guest room where Erica’s been staying, so that Erica can have a larger room and be with her family downstairs. Moving some of the desks was pretty difficult, considering they were exactly the width of our stairwell. Hell, it took five guys to move them up the stairs.

Fuck, Today is Mother’s Day

Argh, why does nobody tell me these things until the last minute? What, it’s like I’m supposed to keep a calendar to tell me or something. Entirely unreasonable :(

CVS is open 24/7, right?
