Poetry!

Well, I’ve been known to write poetry on occasion. I’ve got a few that I’ve been holding on to for a little while (since high school, actually), but I figured I might as well go ahead and post them. Let me know what you think.

Beneath the stars, in darkness’ breast
A waking dream pervades my rest.
Though upward gazing at the skies,
There’s naught but you flitting before mine eyes.

Upon soft grass, lie I wond’ring–
Dost thee compare to a winter’s night?
To the first spring dawning,
Or late autumn twilight?

While frost may gather aside heavy snow
And winds blow chill, I’ll always know
You’ll keep me warm ’til winter’s night
Fades for spring, and dark shadows alight.

As early morn bears light rain and flowers,
With gentle winds, and the aromas it brings,
You’ll be the one with whom I pass the hours,
For your pleasures are eternal, unlike temporal spring’s.

Amidst tender autumn’s lull and calm,
When twilight approaches, ending summer’s balm,
Though up above, the stars glimmer bright,
Near Earth, I’ll stare, t’ward thine eyes’ glinting light.

Yet during the searing summer flames,
I pine the greatest for thy soothing caress;
For even the heart’s inferno, it tames.
‘Tis for this I cherish you–nothing less.

Love is but a plucked crimson rose:
Each vibrant petal soon wilts away.
Yet when each one falls, the blossom knows
And utters an inaudible screech of pain.

There never was such a horrendous beast
So glaring and harsh to behold.
In arrogance, apathy, and idiocy, it feasts
While its brazen heart runs cold.

This selfish and mean, insipid ghast fiend
So assured of its own vast import
Indulges itself in violence, it seems
For naught even greater than sport.

Over all the world, none other can
Be so easily likened to swine,
For these harsh terms depict none other than
The pathetic Humanus Divine.
